Integrated approach to delineate sites for implementation of managed aquifer recharge (MAR) structures in Cuoridated crystalline aquifer of south India

Using seven thematic layers viz., geology, geomorphology, slope, soil, drainage density, lineament density and land use-land cover, a scheme has been developed to identify the most suitable sites for MARS in a fluoride-contaminated crystalline aquifer region. After superimposing of drainage and lineament on obtained aquifer recharge zone map, 41 possible sites for artificial recharge were delineated. Among 41 sites, only 13 were considered as MAR sites based on groundwater fluoride level fluctuation with recharge in the 53 sq km Maheshwaram area.
