Structural Mapping of potential field sources using BHG filter

Structural Mapping of potential field sources using BHG filter

Several edge detection techniques using magnetic field data are in vogue. A new filter called Balanced Horizontal Gradient (BHG) is designed for enhanced delineation of edges of subsurface bodies, which has special advantages. This filter is based on the arctangent function of the derivatives of horizontal gradients. The filter is able to detect all edges both from shallow and deep seated sources. The technique was applied to aeromagnetic data from central India and identified extensions of the Godavari rift and central Indian Shear Zone underneath the Deccan Volcanic Province.
