Summer/Winter Internships
CSIR-NGRI plays a vital role in creating trained human resources with emphasis on Geology and Geophysics. It serves as a sound foundation for helping post-graduate students of various Indian Universities/Institutes to develop their professional skills, knowledge, and abilities. Over 100 post-graduate students are being trained every year as Summer/Winter Interns.
Post-graduate students in their second year / last semester, studying Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences are eligible to apply. Online application on the CSIR-NGRI website opens each year in January for the Summer Internships and in October for the Winter Internships. Selection is based on a combination of requirements and positions available with scientists of the Institute. A certificate is awarded to each student on the successful completion of their Internship and submission of their Report.
In summer the first slot spreads over May-June, while the next over July-August. In winter there is only one slot, during December-January. Selected candidates have to stay for a minimum period of 6 weeks and a maximum period of 8 weeks in each phase. Overlaps/ extensions are not permitted.
Shared accommodation at nominal rate may be provided, if available.

Master’s Dissertations
CSIR-NGRI also offers a limited opportunity to pursue post graduate dissertation work for completion of Master’s degree, as required by several Universities. Interested candidates need to submit application in prescribed proforma size:( 0.07 MB) along with CV and a Letter from HOD latest by 31st October to sac@ngri.res.in . This will be evaluated by Student Affairs Committee (SAC) for its merit and if accepted, the candidate would be invited to work at the CSIR-NGRI. Duration is 4-6 months and group dissertations are not entertained. The Dissertation Thesis would be completed at CSIR-NGRI and a copy of the Dissertation Thesis would be submitted to CSIR-NGRI.
