The CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) commemorated its 83rd Foundation Day on September 26th, 2024, followed by a series of special events, including the Foundation Day Lecture and Hindi Diwas celebration, on October 1st, 2024.
The event featured Prof. Shekhar C. Mande, former Director General of CSIR and Distinguished Professor at the Bioinformatics Centre, Savitribai Phule Pune University, as the Chief Guest. Prof. Mande delivered an insightful lecture covering the scientific advancements of ancient India and highlighting CSIR’s key innovations, including the development of indelible ink, dry milk, and its pivotal role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. He also emphasized NGRI's vital contributions to groundwater exploration for sustainable development, outlining the institute’s vision for a "Vikshit Bharat" (Developed India) by 2047.
Presiding over the event, Dr. Prakash Kumar, Director of NGRI, reflected on the institute’s illustrious history while addressing the challenges and opportunities ahead in achieving Vikshit Bharat. He was joined on the dais by Dr. Ajai Manglik, Chief Scientist, and Dr. Devender Kumar, Senior Principal Scientist of NGRI.
The celebration was further elevated by the presence of two Padma Shri awardees and former Directors of NGRI, Prof. H. K. Gupta and Prof. V. P. Dimri, who have played significant roles in shaping the institute's legacy in geophysics.
The event was attended by distinguished retired colleagues, current scientific and technical staff, and students, making it an inspiring and memorable occasion. The celebrations reflected NGRI's commitment to scientific excellence and its ongoing contribution to India's sustainable development goals.
