The 6 February 2023 Turkey earthquakes (Mw 7.8 and 7.6) affected seismic activity across Iran. This study examined seismic data from 99 stations to identify small earthquakes and tremors triggered by the mainshock. Seismic activity increased rapidly after the Mw 7.8 earthquake and continued for about five hours before returning to normal levels. Triggered activity was observed at 14 stations, mainly near fault zones and hot-spring areas. The results suggest that temporary stress changes, together with crustal fluids and increased pore pressure, played an important role in triggering earthquakes.
Fig: (a) Spectrogram of the vertical-component recording obtained at station ZNJK. (b) Envelope of the vertical-component signal after applying a 2–8 Hz band-pass filter. (c) Corresponding 2–8 Hz band-pass-filtered vertical-component waveform. (d) Waveforms of the detected events plotted according to their occurrence times and classified as triggered earthquakes. The P- and S-phase arrivals of the triggered earthquakes are indicated by P and S, respectively. Panels (a), (b), and (c) use a common time axis. The numerical annotations in panel (a) identify the individual triggered earthquakes shown in panel (d).
