The Koyna-Warna region in western India is the world's best-known example of reservoir-triggered earthquakes. To better understand the seismic activity, the CSIR-NGRI established a unique deep borehole seismic monitoring network. Analysis of earthquake data from 2015-2024 shows improved detection and location accuracy, including very small earthquakes. Tomographic imaging of the subsurface reveals significant P-wave velocity variations associated with the seismically active Donachiwada Fault down to earthquake-generating depths.
