Research Area

Dr. Sudesh Kumar received Ph.D in Geophysics from Osmania University, Hyderabad and M.Tech. (Applied Geophysics) from IIT Roorkee. He has 18 years of experience in Geophysical Exploration and Research in the field of Earth Science and Earth Process Modelling. Prior to joining as Scientist in CSIR-NGRI, he served as Scientific Officer in Atomic Minerals Directorate of Exploration and Research, Department of Atomic Energy, Nagpur during 2003-08. He has completed geophysical surveys for Atomic minerals in Vindhyan Basin and Arravalli fold belts.

Dr. Kumar has been working on Internal Structure of the Earth and its related processes of evaluation using state-of-art modelling techniques in CSIR-NGRI. He has completed many projects few are Evolution and Modification of Indian Cratons- Seismological Perspective and Synthesis of Earthquake Hazard Scenario in NW Himalaya by Investigating the Multi-Scale Variations in Structural and Seismotectonic Assemblages (SHIVA). Currently, he is working in Probing the structure and kinematics of the NW Himalaya for Assessment of Earthquake Hazard Potential (ProbHIM) project.

Dr. Kumar has many peer reviewed research papers in his credit and presented many research papers in national and international conferences.

Ongoing Research Projects

Proffessional Experience

Dr. Sudesh Kumar has vast research and exploration experience in the field of earth science. He has worked in AMD/DAE where he was involved in designing and execution of regional and detained geophysical surveys for atomic minerals. He is well acquainted with mostly used methods for minerals exploration (Gravity, Magnetic, Electrical and Electromagnetic). He has five years experience of data acquisition, processing and interpretation for atomic minerals.

Dr. Kumar has been working in observational seismology to understand the nature of lithospheric structure of Indian continents using 3-D seismic tomography and receiver function techniques.
